"He is really like, 'Man, I'm torn,'" Donny Marshall, Kidd's best
friend on the Nets, said after talking to Kidd yesterday. "Even though
he had a great time down there, he keeps thinking about the guys (the
Nets) and who Rod (Thorn) will bring back. He doesn't know (what he's
going to do but) he knows he has time."
A Spurs source also said the team is looking into signing Alonzo
Mourning as a way to entice Kidd, but whether it can beat out Dallas
or Miami remains to be seen. The Nets could be interested in Mourning
- who is cleared to play with a kidney illness - but would want to
sign Kidd first.
In another possible bad sign for the Nets, Marshall, a free agent,
will play on the Spurs' Rocky Mountain Revue summer-league team July
16-26, the Spurs source said. Marshall, a free agent, will play for
the Nets in next week's Boston summer league.
