He's all but one his fifth consecutive Tour. It's all over but the
ride into Paris tomorrow.

The one who counted most, fell, and that sealed it for Armstrong.
Tomorrow's a cruise anyway so it's not like he's in any danger of
some kind of monumental screwup that could lose him the race.

I expect him to win his 6th Tour next year.

Doesn't hurt that he's from the State of Texas, eh?

That would be difficult. The miles get to you after
a while, he and his wife separated and reconciled
earlier this year, and he has had some problem with
his energy levels this year. Maybe he will do like
Indurain and just walk away after his five.

He had the flu just before the race. That had to affect his
performance during the early stages of the race. I didn't
know about the separation though. What happened to cause
that, William?
Winning a 6th Tour and making it the record to beat is
a strong temptation.

I don't know the details of the separation, which is good,
because I'm not really a gossipy type. But I'm heartened
to hear that they are working on it. I suspect that a big
reason is his wife doesn't like Europe that much, and he
is over there for much of the year.

One of Lance's trainers was quoted in today's warmup show
as saying that in past years Lance would in past years
already be psyching himself to come back next year and win
it again. This year there has been none of that, and in
the morning press conference he was talking about how his
" . . . time was limited in the sport."

He might not be back.

"I love cycling, I love my job and I will be back," Armstrong said.
"In many ways, I'm coming back to hopefully return to a level that I
had for the first four, because this year was not acceptable."

And that, as they say, settles that.

Impressionable child. It's never settled until
il porte la maillot jaune à Paris.
