Default Braking

Hello,

I'm a beginning roller skater in France and would like ti know if there
exists a site (or more) with films or verry clear pictures who explains how
to brake. I have no experience at all and would really like to learn how to
stop...

Hope somebody can tell me.

For speed control .. and braking .. learn to circle
around with your skates heel to heel.

I'd like to learn that. I'm a very lanky and limber guy, but to get toe-
heel-heel-toe in a laser STRAIGHT line, I have to squat WAY down, knees
bent 90 degrees or more, and it doesn't feel like the smartest thing for my
knees.

My knees otherwise have no problem bending/lunging deeply straight ahead,
so I assume I need greater range and flexibility in the femur-hip socket
joint, yes/no? Got any good stretches for this?

Thanks in advance...

Play around with toe-drags. You'll pick it up right away,
and find that you can do lots of things heel to heel.
Some whopping fast 2-footed spins are entered that
way.

my

Start with sculling in that position. I see it in the roller rinks
every time I go. I do it into pivot spins and that is about all
I use it for except in the street on my inlines. It is a good
way to to save on the brakes, but it will burn your wheels
right off. The way you are describing it is correct. Very
few skaters can do it with straight legs. I do it your way
with deep bent knees ... can enter it forward or back, and
it looks good too. Depending on the size of the circle, it
will bleed off speed in a well controlled manner, and is the
best way to reverse directions quickly even if you hold it
only a couple seconds.

Forget that. Just take what you have and make the best of
it. That is not a move worth perfecting because it will do
bigtime damage to your ligaments. You are either born to
do it, or you are not.
