Since the Cards have released Vina, any chance of us signing Luis
Castillo? He's a better hitter than Vina, at the very least.

Quite possibly too expensive. And contrary to what some people on here
would expect me to say, I would like to see him leading off for the
Cardinals at the right price, and I don't mind his lack of power. Most
importantly, he gets on base. He gets things done once he's on base,
and he plays second base well too, but getting on base is the main
thing.

Here's another scenario. The management likely knows as well as Vina that no
team will pay his contract value.
Will the Cardinals try to get him to stay for a far lesser amount? As much fun
as Vina is to watch play, it seems he has outlived his usefulness in St. Louis,
both physically and verbally. But that never stopped the owners before.........

Assuming one of Drew/Edmonds is the only position player to go, OBP has
even more significance than normal. There are diminishing returns
associated with SLG with this lineup, unless you find back-to-back home
runs _that_ aesthetically pleasing.

Castillo is not the most alert guy that I have seen. He may have been
playing hurt in 2003, judging by his CS%. He would fit the Cardinals
well, but given a choice I think I would rather have an expensive
starting pitcher.
