Holt gets seven year deal
Incorrect. Pace, and more specifically, his AGENT, haven't a CLUE what he's
"worth". More importantly, they are grossly overestimating his value in a
sport that is structured business-wise to not be conducive to paying
non-featured players top dollar; not to mention the market during this
CURRENT offseason.
Teams in the NFL simply can't afford to pay an OLman the ridiculous money
Pace wants; talent or no. He and his agent raised the likelihood that if the
Rams wouldn't pay his asking price, someone else would. They asked the Rams
to ask around the league for a trade possibility so that he could negotiate
with a new team. The Rams did so willingly (and knowingly was a wise thing
to do) and the response they got back was similar to the sound deaf people
hear. It doesn't help your negotiating strategy when the team calls your
bluff and now holds all the cards.
So, as it stands, its established that neither the Rams, or ANY other NFL
team are willing to pay Pace's ridiculous asking price. What he's doing now
by not negotiating with the Rams is nothing but the equivalent of the kid
sulking in the corner because mommy wouldn't buy him the toy he wanted, when
he could've had another just as suitable toy.
Will the Rams miss Pace if they can't get him back in the fold? You bet. But
do you think for a moment they didn't see this coming? Turley was a
pre-emptive signing. He wasn't brought in to strengthen the right side; he
was brought in to replace Pace. In the oft-chance Pace knocked the rocks
around in his head, and realized he was an idiot for turning down what the
Rams had offered, then they would easily have the best Tackle combination in
the NFL.
$10 says Pace holds out, eventually resigns with the Rams, is ineffective as
a result of the holdout, and eventually gets hurt.
We've seen this story played out a million times in the NFL every August...
