June 27, 2003
LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Four Bears players will trade their shoulder pads for
baseball bats Sunday evening to participate in a celebrity home run contest
before a minor league game between the Schaumburg Flyers and the
Safety Mike Brown, quarterback Chris Chandler, linebacker Bobbie Howard and
long-snapper Patrick Mannelly are slated to represent the Bears at Alexian
Field in Schaumburg.
They’ll face a team captained by former White Sox star Ron Kittle that also
includes ex-Bears linebacker Jim Schwantz, former White Sox slugger Dan
Pasqua and ex-Chicago Wolves goalie Wendell Young.
The eight participants will use aluminum bats and regulation baseballs to
take aim at three money zones situated in the stadium’s outfield. The zones
range in value from $50 to $200. All money accumulated by each team during
the contest will be awarded to that team’s charity.
The Chicago Bears team will represent Bears Care and Kittle’s Krushers will
be playing for the charitable organizations of the Alexian Brothers Hospital
The event is scheduled to begin at 4:25 p.m. Fans can come watch the
celebrities take batting practice from 3:55-4:15 p.m. The game begins at
5:05 p.m. To order tickets, call the Flyers at (847) 891-2255.
