This doesn’t bode well for my projection of acquiring Craig Wilson from
Pittsburgh. But since I brought it up, I’ll go on the record as saying
Wilson would be the better pick-up. We’d have to make a trade for him, but
he’s become the odd man out in Pittsburgh since the Bucs acquired Sean Casey
and Jeromy Burnitz this off-season. We could get him for a song, and while
he’s not a future hall-of-famer or anything like that, he’d be an upgrade
over Blake in right and allow Blake and Broussard to split time at first
(something I can almost live with).

He would be a marginal upgrade over Blake. They were virtually identical
players in 2004. And while Blake’s numbers dropped in ’05, at least he was
playing. Wilson missed over 100 games last year, and has had more than 400
PA’s just once in his career.
2004 2B HR RBI BA ABP SLG
Wilson 35 29 82 .264 .354 .499
Blake 36 28 88 .271 .354 .486
As for fielding, Blake has above average range, while Wilson is below
average. Neither appears to have much of an arm.
I just don’t see the point in trading for this guy. He would probably be
better than Blake, but he hasn’t shown the ability to stay healthy, so why

Are you sure Rob Macowiak hasn’t become the “odd man out”? He’s gone
from Pittsburgh you know.
