In talking about Justin Morneau in last Friday’s Minneapolis Star
Tribune, columnist Patrick Reusse referred to Morneau’s defense as
having an iron glove. In Sunday’s St. Paul Pioneer Press, baseball
writer Gordon Wittenmyer said defensively Mientkiewicz at 1st base turns
an average-to-good infield into an exceptional infield and Morneau at
1st base turns an average-to-good infield into an average-to-poor
Didn’t someone post in here about a month ago saying the “professional
scouts” he knows said Morneau was good defensively?
I’m assuming these professional scouts are currently unemployed.

I wonder if these two columnists have ever actually seen Morneau play 1st base?
season moves (trading A.J. and letting Milton and Hawkins go) have doomed the Twins.
That must have been Mosey.
Why? Again, I bet those columnists are relying on other people’s reports,
people who might be other columnists. I’ve had the same number of opportunities
to see Morneau play 1B as has Patrick Reusse–once, and it wasn’t on TV. He
started only one or two games last year and only one this year. How could
anyone make a definitive statement based on 3 games?
“When you argue with a fool be sure he is not similarly occupied.”
See how the pros get their power!

LOL. Where’d old Johnny go anyway? It’s been so darned pleasant around here.

I’m assuming they have. Wittenmyer is the Twins’ beat writer and covers
both major and minor leagues and Reusse visits the minors alot for his
Actually, I’d love to see Morneau play with the Twins. I read though
that the Twins’ braintrust feels since they can’t afford the big-money
free agents, they make defense a priority. (Sigh)
