The Expos-Nationals franchise hadn’t a player hit three homers in a game
since Montreal’s Tim Wallach against Atlanta on May 4, 1987.
It was Soriano’s first three-homer game, and his five RBI matched his career
Soriano then led off the third by becoming only the fifth player to homer
twice off Smoltz in the same game — and first to do so since 1999.

Hit in the rain in that park that ‘has been killing Nat batters’. Re:

That’s what makes it special… I read he’s made some leaping grabs in
LF, so I guess his offense is not affected by the move.
It’s hard to believe it’s been 19 years since Tim Wallach did the same.
He was my favourite Expo.

Vidro’s complaint was that Tavares doesn’t care about the players. I
agree. Calling up 2 fresh arms last Sept. 1 would have saved the season.
The depth of RFK was only part of Vidro’s gripe. Why don’t they paint the
real dimensions on the wall?
Wallach was great. Didn’t he play the entire 80s without going on the DL?

I’m not sure, but I don’t recall him ever being injured. Great glove and
that low ball, golf-like power stroke was pretty unique.

IIRC Isn’t he the batting coach for the Dodgers?
Cat daddy 2012-06-13 22:22:56
He was up until last year, but he’s not listed for this year and I can’t
find any other news.
Well, Soriano’s up in the 9th and the guys have looked great, except for
the scoring……… Fielder’s choice.
Gah, Vidro almost ties it………… “In any other park…”

Ruined a good start from Armas. Guess they’ll have to win this series in
Cat daddy 2012-06-13 22:23:21
Like Stanton ruined Patterson’s, except they got the win. Gary’s not the
same, they don’t have Ayala, and I’m missing Carrasco already…… As
usual, the pitchers are going to be basket cases this year, I’m afraid.
