The Wolves evened their exhibition record, 1-1, with a win over their rival,
the Grand Rapids
Griffins. Here’s the recap:
ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill.—The Chicago Wolves never trailed in their 3-1 win
against the Grand
Rapids Griffins last night at West Meadows Ice Arena.
Chicago (1-1-0-0) grabbed the first lead of the game for the second straight
Grand Rapids (0-1-0-0) will face the Wolves again in the regular-season
opener at the Allstate
Arena on Sat., Oct. 11, at 7 p.m.
The Wolves got on the board, 1-0, when left wing Eric Healey sent the puck
from the left circle
to center Kevin Doell, who fired a wrist shot from the slot past Grand
Rapids goaltender Joey
MacDonald at 16:38 of the first period.
MacDonald (0-1-0-0) posted 21 saves on 23 shots in the loss.
The Griffins knotted the game, 1-1, on the power play as center Jeff Nelson
ripped a shot from
the point where right wing Tomas Kopecky tipped it into the net past Chicago
Garnett at 5:51 of the final frame.
Garnett (1-0-0-0) turned aside 36 shots in the win.
Chicago regained its lead and earned the game-winner, 2-1, with a power-play
goal of its own
when left wing Simon Gamache deflected center Derek MacKenzie s shot into
the goal at 12:59 of
the third period.
Defenseman Evan Nielsen iced the game for the Wolves, 3-1, with an empty-net
goal at 19:33 of
the final stanza.
The Wolves close out their preseason slate against the Milwaukee Admirals at
The Edge in
Bensenville on Sat., Oct. 4, at 7 p.m.
