Default Jrs. and Cadets

Why has there been no talk about our Jrs. and Cadets. More important
why hasn't the USATT said anything about the good jobthey have done.
I looked on the USATT website no mention of any Jrs. or Cadets from
the last international tournament. I think they should all get a round
of applause. Judy Hugh won a gold and a bronze. And no one has said
anything about this? I would Like to know why? Are these Jrs and
Cadets suppose to be our future? Does anyone at USATT care? I won't
point any fingers about why theses results are not on the USATT
Website are a write up about Judy Hugh the only Gold Medlist isn't
featured!

There's a writeup of the event coming, which will go online when it is
received.

I had no idea anything was going on. How good is Judy playing now? Is she
still about 2000 or did she make a jump?

She is solid 2150, maybe better, from what I see.

The ITTF Junior Circuit - STIGA Canadian Junior Open, AUG 27-30 - 2003 ended
over a week ago and there is not even one sentence about Judy Hugh of NEW
JERSEY winning a gold medal in an ITTF tournament.

The last time an American won a gold medal at a ITTF event was 1981 by Eric
Boggan.

But the USATT Can't/Won't even put up a single sentence in OVER A WEEK about
the first GOLD MEDAL by an AMERICAN in over 22 years.

NOT ONE SINGLE SENTENCE on the website.

WHY is she being treated this way.?

IFit was someone from Maryland, it would take 7 minutes to put up a least a
one or 2 sentences on the USATT homepage, not over 7 days.

This is one of the best news about a USATT member in about a quarter century
and NOT EVEN A SINGLE word.

What a sad sad thing.

Doru, let's get your people on the ball.

John,

I already posted that the article on the tournament would go online as soon
as I receive it. I haven't received it. I generally do not post articles
that I have not received as that would mean posting a blank page. I expect
the article (and hopefully photos) very soon.

As to your regular insinuations about prejudice against New Jersey, they
don't make sense considering Adam Hugh, Pan Lin and Eric Finkelstein have
all be Juniors of the Month this past year, not to mention all the coverage
David Zhuang, Lily Yip and others get. It does get tiresome, and you do have
a tendency toward hyperbole. For example, you claim that Judy Hugh is the
only American player to win a gold medal at an ITTF event since 1981, when
this is blatently false. Off the top of my head, Cheng Yinghua won Men's
Doubles at the 1998 U.S. Open ITTF Pro Tour, and David Zhuang (from your
home state of NJ!) won Consolation at the Worlds a few years ago. I'm sure
there are others.

I might add that a Marylander won a bronze medal at the ITTF event, yet the
article didn't go up in "7 minutes." If he had won a gold, I'd still be
waiting for the article.

How long does it take to put a one sentence on the homepage, that a American
won a gold medal at an ITTF event?

It's over 7 days and not a SINGLE word or sentence about the US winning a gold
medal.

The article can always be added later.

Larry, this is a total disrespect to Judy Hugh, her family and the US Girl's
Cadet Team, that someone can't even out up a single sentence in OVER a week on
the homepage.

Perhaps the better way to handle this would have been a simple ***email***?
If you had checked, you would have found out I was out of town until late
last Monday, and thought the article would be in sooner. Due to an injury, I
spent Friday in bed, and I actually took the weekend off. I was already
planning on putting something up Monday morning if the article wasn't
received by then. Haven't you noticed that I tend to put up a lot of news
items on Monday morning, when the weekly items go up?

I am pretty disgusted at your attitude with your attack on me about favoring
Marylanders and the usual hyperbole. We've been through this before, and
I've think I've proven that it's the other way - Marylanders tend to get
overlooked just because they are from Maryland. I've given many examples in
the past. Just look at how many Nationals Cheng and Gao have won, and how
many times they DIDN'T get the cover. Or how Marylanders who win national
championships share junior of the month honors, while those they beat in the
final get one to themselves. There are many examples. I'm sick and tired of
your attitude.

The irony is that Judy's brother is the current Junior of the Month!!!

Wow, we've been talking about Judy for 3 days and I didn't know she won a
gold medal. I thought Whitney just said that "she did well." Well anyway,
next time you see Judy tell her that I said congratulations. Hmmm, better
tell her coaches Lilly and Barry that I said congratulations to them too.

When someone goes after me with claims of bias, I tend to give short answers.

As I posted, a simple email might have solved quite a bit. As to waiting 7
days, I didn't realize I was supposed to be on call 7 days a week, and that
when I went to bed on Thursday that I wouldn't be able to take the weekend
off, or Friday with the neck injury off, since that would end up making it 7
days if the article didn't come in. I usually do work 7 days a week, but I
didn't know I was expected to. Didn't the people you supported in the last
election say I only do a "half-time job"? Yet I'm supposed to work weekends,
as well as Friday when I was in bed with an injured neck? As I've posted a
number of times, I was hoping to get the article last week. I've been out of
commission or taking the weekend off since Thursday night. Since I still
haven't received the article, it was about time to put up something. And
then I read this attack on my integrity about bias, etc.

week.

I didn't say they all go up on Monday. Articles that headquarters request
generally go up the day they ask me to put them up. Tournament articles tend
to go up when they are received and edited. Other items tend to go up on
Mondays. It's a general policy - for example, there's another item also going up Monday.

And how many emails did you send to me requesting this info? The headache of
working in a public position, with no public relations office to handle this
type of thing, is that I have to not only do all my regular work, but have
to defend regular public attacks from people such as yourself. Even now I'm
responding when I'd like to finalize my work tonight and go to bed.

I never said that. I am compiling the results now. My original plan was to
wait until Monday morning, and then if the article wasn't received, compile
the results and put together the news item, along with another one. (This
was in my TODO list for Monday.) Since you've gotten me riled up so I'm
probably not going to bed for a while, I'm compiling them now. It's not easy
since the ITTF page doesn't have them all, as John Schneider found out. But
I'm sure I'll figure them all out. A great way to end my weekend.

With the resources of USATT? USATT has an annual budget less than an
average 7-11, and fewer employees as well. Of course, we could hire another
person, but then we'd have to cut one of the other budgets that you
regularly argue should also be increased.

Bingo. But instead I'm up late on a Sunday putting together news items,
arguing with you, and dealing with a number of USATT League issues. And
since you've publicly claimed I'm biased, I now have to consider once again
wasting time researching and posting facts to show your attack is false,
since as usual someone will distribute your posting to USATT Board members.
Thanks a lot.

-Larry Hodges
