Default From a disgruntled Islanders fan....

As printed in the St. Petersburg Times....

I would like to congratulate the Tampa Bay Lightning on its first-round win
over the Islanders. As a longtime Islanders fan, I know of the long, hard
road that lies > ahead in the quest for the Stanley Cup, and I wish the team
well.

--we thank you for your support.....

I was there April 16, however, when the Islanders lost to the Lightning, and
I was appalled at the way the Lightning fans treated my wife and me. After
the game, we were verbally assaulted the minute we walked out of the Times
Forum.

--Like the Islander fans were not equally abusive towards Lightning fans
when they were at Nassau...please....

The behavior displayed by the Lightning fans was reprehensible. I have been
attending hockey games since 1975, and never had I ever feared for my
physical safety.

--You obviously have never been to the 700 level of Veterans Stadium, or to
the Forum wearing a Leafs jersey....if you were wearing a Islanders jersey,
you had a reason to worry...but we Lightning fans are mostly bark....

The Lightning fans are a crude, ignorant, disrespectful bunch that wouldn't
know the difference between a puck and a Ring Ding, and they absolutely do
not deserve a fine, hard-working team such as the Lightning. Enjoy your
"back-to-back" Southeast Division banners. They are a meaningless title for
a meaningless division to a meaningless fan base in a meaningless hockey
city.

--Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..............s our g****s I think...

This guy was doing great until the last paragraph, when he let his "goober"
status be known thoroughly.....

Trop, though the breakdown works on certain message boards, when posting on
the usenet it might be wiser to wait until after the fulltext fo the article
is posted to make your comments instead of breaking it apart. It gets
confusing

I wonder if he has ever noticed how an out of town fan wearing his teams
colors is reacted to in either new york building or somewhere like Chicago,
St Louis, Detroit etc etc etc. If he and his wife didn't walk out smelling
like someone favorite beer he should count his blessings and congratulate
the Bolt fans on their sportsmanship.

Or Nachos. That's what we had thrown at us in Pittsburgh! (Thankfully,
no cheese on 'em!)

I remember two years ago during the Islanders/Maple Leafs series, Islanders
fans in NY actually started going after the CBC news crews. THAT'S class

In Philly a couple of years ago (different sport) the Bucs flew up a few
fans who won a contest to see the NFC Championship game

They warned those fans any other Bucs fans at the game NOT to wear Bucs
paraphenlia, not to rejoice for the team or anything like that until the
game was over because they were physically in danger being out of town fans
iat the game.

That being said, some verbal sparring is a step down from that.

We had some drunk fools taunting a group of Canadian ****s at an
Isles-Canucks game two years ago. In the middle of the game, they were
standing up and shouting BS at the kids. My sis-in-law and I finally told
the drunks to sit down and shut up. The Head Drunk told us to mind our own
business, slumped in his chair, and shut up. Then left early.

Let's face it - what other group of fans is aware enough to start a "We
****" chant halfway through a playoff game? :-D

Ranger fans? :-p Don't mean to bring up your arch-nemisis but the memory
of Madison Square Garden filled with "Lets go Lightning!" chants a few years
ago (while we were slammin' the Rangers) is still fresh on my memory
