Default Keep Reed Johnson in lineup...

Johnson has shown nothing. Pitchers have not made any adjustments to him
yet. Most hot rookie hitters go into a huge
slump once the league starts paying attention to what they are doing.
The one's that become long term major league players
are the one that can adjust back. It will be a year before you know if
Reed is anything or nothing at all. Shannon get very
little respect in TO. Shannon is a great hitter. His defence is not
actually that bad has he has good range. He still has speed which is
evident in the number of doubles he hits. Unlike Carlos he is not
getting this doubles by hitting the ball hard, he is getting them by
running. On the negitive Shannon has no arm. He has nerver been a great
baserunner. With the make up of our team
and the way we play Shannon is the best lead off man in baseball for us.
He get's on base and he can score from first. that is what our team
needs. Stealing is not a part of the stlye of ball that we play. As for
the defence, he has the same career fielding percentage as Frank, and
they are both higher than Johnson (Johnson number don't really mean
anything yet).

All this said I would trade Shannon for a good pitcher. Guess what? IT
IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! Only a team making a run right now is going to
trade anything other than prospects for a free agent. No team in
baseball making a run for anything has extra pitching to trade. When
management was talking about Shannon and Escobar going they did not
think we were going to be in the postion we are. Since May 1 we are the
best team in baseball. They can not give up on the season by trading
away Shannon for someone that will be playing at AAA. If we do well in
the upcoming series with New York and Boston we could be trading Reed or
Howie Clark to get that extra bullpen arm. The Jays could be in the
playoffs this year. Until it is clear if we can make a run or not a
decision can't be made.

How about trading Stewart for a reliever (ideally someone who can close
games)?

Assuming we were going to trade Stewart to the Athletics, would Stewart
for Bradford be a fair deal? I'd be more comfortable with Bradford
closing games than Politte.

Why on earth would the A's give up Bradford?

bin Law Doggy, that is a sick and detestable image. It's likely a true
statement, but nonetheless, it remains sick and detestable.

Well, is there any half-decent reliever we could get from Oakland in
exchange for Stewart? Jim Mecir?

Hmm. The A's & JP have both shown a willingness to do 3 way trades.
Could there be a 3rd team that would take prospects from Oakland,
Stewart to Oakland, Jays take a closer/setup man from 3rd team? No
ideas offhand on who could be added to the mix offhand but I'm sure
someone is stinking up the joint record-wise but has a good reliever
or two.

Which means you can't trade Shannon. They will be looking for playes
like Reed,Clark,Wise or even someone like Eric if it a good reliver. You
Know The people we want to keep.
