Hahahaha... what a load of crappy crap crap crap

http://tinyurl.com/irom

Goodenow's stand is "that the current system that allows teams to pay
whatever they decide a player's contribution is worth is the most fair
approach. The league has never been as competitive, basically, in its
history as it has been recently under the current agreement. It's certainly
provided for great competition and balance on the ice."

If Bob was spinning any harder, he would strike oil. It is unfortunate that
we are still in the "PR war" stage of this thing, rather than having the two
sides doing some meaningful bargaining...

i agree fully with his assesment that the system in place is perfect. if
the owners used it to their advantage, they would benefit, but they dont.
how is that the players fault ? ll

only because the big money crapped out in the playoffs this year...
what a goof... regular season games win loss ratio must be slanted
towards higher payroll sinse the last agreement. rangers are obviously
a strange thing... playoff success must be skewed really obviously as
well... was someone actually interviewing him? why weren't good hard
follow up questions asked? interviewing has become useless... bloody
communists!

"The league has never been more competitive." (??!!) That's why every
year, year after year, the Cup faves are ALWAYS Detriot, Dallas,
Colorado, St.L., and New Jersey. Credit to NJ for being the only team
that doesn't go nutso with salaries every year. There has never been
so little parity. To win in this league you have to outspend other
teams or play a game-killing, mind-numbing trap like Anahiem or
Minnisota. No thanks. Double kudos to Burke for developping from
within and from trading AND playing a wide open, exciting brand of
hockey.

Nobody's saying it's the players fault for being greedy little pigs and
trying to get every last dime they can, It's the system which is broken.

Some owners _are_ using to it to their advantage, spending like drunken
sailors. Unfortunately that's only a half dozen owners who can do that,
while the rest go down the financial toilet.

The problem is you have ' have ' and ' have not ' teams all fighting
for a player base whose salaries are set by the ' haves '.

What you apparently aren't understanding, is the contracts of ALL players are
affected by the top salaries. Do you think Burke wants to pay a guy like Rutuu
600K for sitting in the pressbox ? Salaries are dictated to the GM's under
many instances such as 1st round picks, arbitration, and qualifying etc. The
top contracts drag all contracts upward.

Burke is a perfect example of a guy who has no choice. If you're happy with
the Canucks, I'm sincerely happy for you, I wish I was. But I'm not, I want a
team we used to have. A team where the smarts of the management dictated
the results, not money. A team a player or so away from a legitimate shot to
go all the way which can fill that [ those ] spots at the deadline without
having to check their purse.

I see no reason to be optimistic about the team's success unless some money
is spent.

It is a fairly valid point when teams like Ottawa, Vancouver and Anaheim are
faring better than the likes of New York, Philly, Dallas, etc. with half the
payroll.
