Wildcatters Sign 1999 NHL Draft Pick Josh Reed
BEAUMONT, TX – Texas Wildcatters Head Coach Robert Dirk announced
today the team has signed defenseman Josh Reed, who was drafted by
the Vancouver Canuck in the 6th round (172nd overall) of the 1999 NHL
Entry Draft.
As per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The 24-year-old Reed will be attending the Canucks training camp in
September and has also been invited to take part in the Manitoba
Moose (AHL) training camp.
Coming off a four-year college career at the University of
Massachusetts-Lowell, Reed will be making his professional debut this
fall. The stay-at-home defenseman appeared in 107 college games,
registering 39 points and 94 penalty minutes.
A Vernon, B.C native, Reed grew up 30 miles from Dirk’s hometown of
Kelowna. “We are cut from the same cloth,” said Dirk of the
6-foot-3, 200-pound defenseman. “Josh is strong kid, I look forward
to helping him get to the next level.” Dirk played four seasons with
Vancouver in the early 90’s.
