This team is becoming very adept at scoring bunches of runs in a couple of
games and following it up with 18-27 scoreless innings. This is the second
bout of consecutive shutouts in the past month. And that's only the ones
that stood out in my mind.

That's what separates really good pitchers (and the Nats' bats) from the
dregs, although in the past, the Nats stood up well against the Cy aces of
other teams.
D-backs' Brandon Webb and Dan Haren (June) and Dodgers' Derek Lowe and
Clayton Kershaw (July) did the back-to-back shutout thing.
I see the inconsistency of patience as being a key to letting some ace go
deep into the game. If you can't hit him, make him throw a few.

And, there's the patience they're preaching. 6 pitches by Parra and Zim
saw three of them. Three groundouts.....
If I drank, I'd throw my beer bottle at the preacher....
