Default Stadium Audio and other stuff

I've been to every regular season game since the stadium opened, and the sound
has never been as horrible as it was last night. I couldn't hear shit. The
audio was not loud enough and garbled. When Aretha Franklin started singing
the National Anthem, everybody was sitting down, nobody had even realized the
National Anthem was being sung until she was on her second or third line. I
guess it was because the audio was being simulcast to the stadium from the mall
and vice versa, but the experiment failed miserably. I understood maybe five
words from the announcer and refs the whole night.

Another thing that really pisses me off (that has nothing to do with last
night) is, in the good old days at RFK, and even during the first 2 or 3 years
at FedEx, during Sunday games, there would be a constant scroll of scores
around the league being shown on one of the scoreboards. For example, if
Dallas was playing Philly, all you had to do was glance at the scoreboard area,
and within 30 seconds you were updated with every ongoing game in the league.
Now, that is all changed. Now, all they have is a digital clock showing the
current Eastern Time in the space where they used to have the scores. Instead,
they moved the update to another spot that flashes ***E*TRADE*** and the
Redskins logo most of the time, and then periodically gives one score of one
game, and then, if you keep watching, details of the latest scoring drive of
that game. Then more flashing of the Redskins logo. Meanwhile, you miss the
last three plays on the field. If you want to know the score of the Dallas
Philly game, you're shit out of luck, unless you get lucky and happen to be
watching it at the precise time they choose to show it.

That pisses me off.

Okay, since I'm on a roll, what is up with these shit gifts? Back in the good
old days at RFK, they used to give nice stuff you could use. One game I got a
neck warmer that says REDSKINS, it's great in cold weather, and I still use it
today. Another game I got a seat cushion, another useable and appreciated
item. And I'm not talking about ancient history, I'm talking 80s and 90s.
Now, we pay double price for tickets, triple for parking, and if we're lucky,
we get a dumb little pin that with an old helmet and GATORADE in block letters,
or like last night, a dumb little flag that will end up in the trash.

Okay, I'm done for now.

At Fri, 05 Sep 2003 15:41:08 GMT, marknmd@aol.com (Mark the Homer) reached
down, grabbed what he thought was the keyboard and started stroking in
alt.sports.football.pro.wash-redskins:

Well, it was a national game last night ... last time I was at Fed Ex was
when we hosted the Eagles two seasons ago, 4:15 kickoff. I remember seeing
score updates on a regular basis.

I admit, though, that I also miss the good 'ol days of RFK Stadium. The
Squire seemed to care enough about the fans ... with Danny Boy, it's all
about how much money he can squeeze out of the ticket holders.
